How To Cut Business Energy Costs

It’s true that for most businesses, the price of electricity or gas is a significant overhead but it is also an overhead that is frequently ignored in terms of money saving. But any cuts in business electricity costs or business gas costs goes straight to the bottom line so it is a good idea to review things regularly.

One of the fastest ways to do this is to talk to an business energy broker. An energy broker is a person whose sole business is tracking down the best business electricity suppliers in your market and then negotiating an improved deal for you.

An experienced business energy consultant can almost certainly do this better than most individual businesses can for the simple reason that getting to know and understand power suppliers and working out how various charging structures work takes a lot of time. A professional business energy broker can afford to spend most of his time getting to know his market whereas for most businesses this luxury is just not a practical solution.

In the commercial electricity market as an example, different suppliers will offer many different price breaks for businesses using different amounts of power. This is a deliberate ploy to muddle the market and to try and de-commoditise things. After all, if all power businesses sold gas and electricity at identical prices not only would businesses not be able to save money by shopping around, but the competition authorities would get truly annoyed. So what they do is offer different discounts for different levels of power use and for different contract durations etc. Your energy consultant’s role is to pick his way through the myriad of available electricity and gas price tariffs available to find the one that matches your own business’s needs most closely. It is rare, if not almost unheard of, for a business seeking a lower cost business electricity supplier not to save money.

The other advantage of using an energy broker to help you cut your business energy prices is that they usually get paid by the power supply company rather than by you so the apparent cost of employing one is zero. Of course, the energy companies must take this cost into account when they work out their prices but it does mean that you can often employ the services of an electricity or business gas cost reduction consultant without paying anything!for nothing!
